Naknek River Duck Hunting
Waterfowl hunting in southwest Alaska begins September 1 and
runs until December 15. The area has a large migation of both
Puddle Ducks and Divers. Early in the season the ducks that make up the majority of the harvest are American Widgeon, Pintail, Green Winged Teal, Gadwall, and a few Mallards. As the season progresses a larger percentage of Mallards begin to migrate into the area. Hunting is usually done from the river bank over decoys. The river is affected by the tide, so blinds are chosen depending on the water level and number of birds in the area.
Naknek "Tundra" Tromper
The latest addition to the Alaskan Experience guide staff, Tundra, has been hard at work learning the ropes all spring. We hope to have her all dialed in for the fall Ptarmigan and duck hunting. Tundra is from a champion field trial line and we can't wait to see what she is capable of.
