Katmai National Park, Alaska-Bear Viewing Alaska Bear Viewing The Brooks River in Katmai National Park is a must see when you visit the area. Large numbers of Brown Bears congregate each year to feast on Sockeye salmon bound for their spawning grounds. There are few places in the world that you can experience this natural wonder. You can watch bears from the viewing platforms along the Brooks River. The photo above is at Brooks Falls. Bear viewing can be combined with guided fishing or you can just spend the day enjoying the bears. The longer you watch them the more you will see the social order among the bears come out. Katmai also has a rich history of cultural heritage, at brooks camp you can take a park service guided cultural tour. Katmai National Park Fishing This is also a very popular destination for trout and salmon flyfishing. The Brown Bears aren't the only ones feasting at Brooks. Rainbow trout are present throughout the year and congregate in the river as well. The Brooks river supports a very healthy population of Rainbow trout, as well as several species of Alaska salmon. Alaska trout fishing is of the finest here in Katmai. The Brooks River is about a twenty minute flight from King Salmon Alaska, in a float plane. There are numerous other trout fishing streams in Katmai where you can have the same experiences as the Brooks river. Bears and fish are numerous throughout Katmai. |
