Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing
Naknek River Silver Salmon Fishing
The Naknek River, along with many other rivers in Bristol Bay, has a strong Silver Salmon run. Alaska Silver Salmon (Coho) begin to enter the Naknek River at the end of July and typically peak around the last week in August. Alaska Silver Salmon fishing can provide anglers with a very exciting day of Alaska salmon fishing. The limit for Silver Salmon is five per day. These fish are quite likely the most acrobatic of all the Alaska salmon. They will run and jump, testing any angler's skills. One fishing method of choice is casting spinning rods rigged with maribou jigs or spinners.
Alaska Silver Salmon Flyfishing
Alaska Silver Salmon will also very readily take a fly. Fly-fishing for Silvers with brightly colored streamers is very effective. Silver salmon will also take skated or stripped dry flies on the surface. Theres something about seeing a 9-15 lb. fish inhale a dry fly that will really get your heart pumping. Silvers will give you Alaska salmon fly-fishing that will wear you out. Silver Salmon fishing differs from King Salmon fishing, in that many times you are sight-fishing. Along with fishing the Naknek, you might also want to fly out to catch Silvers. Along with the fishing, the scenery can be breathtaking. It's not uncommon to witness bears, moose, eagles, and other wildlife. During the Silver run trout fishing is also very productive on the Naknek River and surrounding fly-out rivers.
